Description

A comforting oven-baked casserole made with seasoned ground beef, tender cabbage, and a savory tomato-based sauce, finished with melted cheese for a hearty family meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small head green cabbage, chopped
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 14 oz canned diced tomatoes
  • 8 oz tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned.
  3. Add onion and garlic, cooking until softened.
  4. Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Add chopped cabbage to the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes until slightly wilted.
  6. Transfer mixture to the prepared baking dish.
  7. Top with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  9. Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes until cheese is bubbly and lightly golden.
  10. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can use ground turkey as a lighter substitute for beef.
  • Add red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
  • This dish reheats well for leftovers.
