Description
A comforting oven-baked casserole made with seasoned ground beef, tender cabbage, and a savory tomato-based sauce, finished with melted cheese for a hearty family meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small head green cabbage, chopped
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 14 oz canned diced tomatoes
- 8 oz tomato sauce
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned.
- Add onion and garlic, cooking until softened.
- Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Add chopped cabbage to the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes until slightly wilted.
- Transfer mixture to the prepared baking dish.
- Top with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes until cheese is bubbly and lightly golden.
- Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can use ground turkey as a lighter substitute for beef.
- Add red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
- This dish reheats well for leftovers.
