Description
A rich and comforting seafood pie made with tender mixed seafood in a creamy cheddar bayβstyle sauce, topped with a flaky golden crust.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 cup cooked shrimp, chopped
- 1 cup cooked crab meat or white fish
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
- 1 sheet pie crust or puff pastry
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Add the onion and sautΓ© until soft and translucent.
- Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in the milk and cook until the sauce thickens.
- Add cheddar cheese, Old Bay seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper; stir until smooth.
- Fold in the seafood and parsley, then remove from heat.
- Pour the mixture into a greased pie dish.
- Cover with pie crust, seal edges, and brush with beaten egg.
- Cut small slits on top to vent.
- Bake for 30β35 minutes until golden brown.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can use all shrimp or all fish if preferred.
- Serve with a simple green salad for balance.
- Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to 2 days.
