Description

A hearty, comforting casserole made with tender cabbage, seasoned ground beef, and layers of melted cheese baked until bubbly and golden.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small head green cabbage, chopped
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
  4. Add onion and garlic; sauté until softened.
  5. Season with paprika, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  6. Stir in diced tomatoes and tomato sauce; simmer for 5 minutes.
  7. Meanwhile, blanch chopped cabbage in boiling water for 5 minutes, then drain well.
  8. Spread half of the cabbage in the baking dish.
  9. Top with half of the beef mixture and half of the cheese.
  10. Repeat layers with remaining cabbage, beef, and cheese.
  11. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  12. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  13. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

  • Drain cabbage well to avoid excess liquid.
  • You can substitute ground turkey for a lighter option.
  • Add red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
