Description

Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes are a creamy, comforting side dish made with layers of thinly sliced potatoes, rich cheese sauce, and baked until golden and bubbly.


Ingredients

  • 4 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  3. Whisk in flour to make a roux, cooking for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Gradually whisk in milk and cream until smooth and thickened.
  5. Stir in cheddar and mozzarella cheeses until melted. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  6. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over them.
  7. Repeat with the remaining potatoes and cheese sauce.
  8. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 20-25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  10. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

  • You can substitute Gruyère cheese for a richer flavor.
  • For extra crispiness, broil for 2-3 minutes at the end of baking.
