Description
Classic Italian-American chicken parmesan made with crispy breaded chicken cutlets, marinara sauce, and melted mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 1/2 cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 cup olive oil (for frying)
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
- Cooked spaghetti or pasta (for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Pound chicken breasts to even thickness.
- Set up a dredging station with flour, beaten eggs, and a mixture of breadcrumbs, parmesan, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
- Dredge each chicken breast in flour, dip in eggs, then coat with breadcrumb mixture.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry chicken for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown (it will finish cooking in the oven).
- Place fried chicken breasts in a baking dish. Spoon marinara sauce over each piece, then top with mozzarella cheese.
- Bake for 20 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through (165°F internal temperature) and cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh basil and serve over spaghetti or pasta.
Notes
- For a lighter version, bake breaded chicken instead of frying before topping with sauce and cheese.
- Use fresh mozzarella for extra creaminess.
- Pairs well with garlic bread and a side salad.
