Description

Classic Italian-American chicken parmesan made with crispy breaded chicken cutlets, marinara sauce, and melted mozzarella and parmesan cheese.


Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup olive oil (for frying)
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • Cooked spaghetti or pasta (for serving)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Pound chicken breasts to even thickness.
  3. Set up a dredging station with flour, beaten eggs, and a mixture of breadcrumbs, parmesan, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  4. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, dip in eggs, then coat with breadcrumb mixture.
  5. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry chicken for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown (it will finish cooking in the oven).
  6. Place fried chicken breasts in a baking dish. Spoon marinara sauce over each piece, then top with mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake for 20 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through (165°F internal temperature) and cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Garnish with fresh basil and serve over spaghetti or pasta.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, bake breaded chicken instead of frying before topping with sauce and cheese.
  • Use fresh mozzarella for extra creaminess.
  • Pairs well with garlic bread and a side salad.
