Description
A hearty, crowd-pleasing casserole made with seasoned ground beef, chili, melted cheese, and crispy tater tots baked to golden perfection.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 oz) chili (with or without beans)
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 package (32 oz) frozen tater tots
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Optional toppings: sliced green onions, sour cream
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned.
- Add diced onion and garlic; sauté until softened.
- Season with chili powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Stir in chili and simmer for 3–5 minutes.
- Spread beef and chili mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese over the mixture.
- Arrange tater tots evenly on top.
- Bake uncovered for 30 minutes.
- Remove from oven, sprinkle remaining cheese over the tots, and return to oven.
- Bake an additional 10–15 minutes until cheese is melted and tots are crispy.
- Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For extra spice, add jalapeños or hot chili.
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
- Best served hot and fresh for maximum crispiness.
