A quick and flavorful Mediterranean-inspired dish featuring seasoned beef, fresh veggies, and tangy sauce, all stuffed into soft pita pockets for a delicious and healthy meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 pita pockets
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, diced
- 1 cucumber, diced
- 1/2 cup red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 cup tahini sauce or tzatziki sauce
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and garlic, cooking for 2-3 minutes until softened and fragrant.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the cumin, coriander, paprika, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Mix until the beef is well-seasoned and fragrant. Remove from heat and set aside.
- To assemble, warm the pita pockets in the oven or microwave for a few seconds until soft.
- Stuff each pita pocket with the cooked beef mixture, then top with diced tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, feta cheese, and parsley.
- Drizzle with tahini sauce or tzatziki sauce, and serve immediately.
Notes
- If you prefer a spicier version, you can add a pinch of chili flakes or drizzle with hot sauce.
- This recipe can be easily adapted to a lamb or chicken version if you prefer a different protein.
