Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 12 oz egg noodles
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 packet French onion soup mix
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded Swiss or Gruyere cheese
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a casserole dish.
- Cook the egg noodles according to package instructions, drain, and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until soft and caramelized, about 15–20 minutes.
- Add garlic to the onions and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Stir in the French onion soup mix, cream of mushroom soup, and beef broth. Simmer for 3–5 minutes.
- Add cooked noodles to the beef mixture and stir until well combined.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared casserole dish and spread evenly.
- Top with mozzarella and Swiss (or Gruyere) cheese.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until bubbly and the cheese is melted and lightly golden.
- Remove from oven, let rest for 5 minutes, and serve warm.
Notes
- You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey for a lighter version.
- Add mushrooms for extra flavor and texture.
- For a crispier top, broil for 2–3 minutes at the end.
