Description
A comforting classic featuring seasoned ground beef simmered in a rich brown gravy, served over creamy mashed potatoes. Simple, hearty, and perfect for a weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (85% lean)
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- Salt to taste
- 4 cups prepared mashed potatoes
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and cook until soft and translucent, about 3–4 minutes.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Sprinkle flour over the beef mixture and stir to coat evenly. Cook for 1 minute to eliminate raw flour taste.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth while stirring to prevent lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer for 5–7 minutes until gravy thickens to desired consistency.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
- Spoon the beef and gravy over warm mashed potatoes.
- Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately.
Notes
- For extra richness, use homemade beef stock instead of broth.
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
- Add sautéed mushrooms for extra flavor and texture.
- Pairs well with a side of green beans or roasted vegetables.
