Description

A comforting classic featuring seasoned ground beef simmered in a rich brown gravy, served over creamy mashed potatoes. Simple, hearty, and perfect for a weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (85% lean)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 cups prepared mashed potatoes
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and cook until soft and translucent, about 3–4 minutes.
  2. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Sprinkle flour over the beef mixture and stir to coat evenly. Cook for 1 minute to eliminate raw flour taste.
  5. Gradually whisk in beef broth while stirring to prevent lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  6. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until gravy thickens to desired consistency.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  8. Spoon the beef and gravy over warm mashed potatoes.
  9. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra richness, use homemade beef stock instead of broth.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • Add sautéed mushrooms for extra flavor and texture.
  • Pairs well with a side of green beans or roasted vegetables.
