Description

Mushroom Swiss Cheese Meatloaf is a juicy and flavorful twist on a classic, featuring seasoned ground beef mixed with sautéed mushrooms and topped with melted Swiss cheese for a rich and comforting dish.

Ingredients

  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté mushrooms and onion until softened and moisture evaporates. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute. Let cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, sautéed mushroom mixture, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  4. Transfer mixture to a loaf pan and shape into a loaf.
  5. Bake for 40 minutes, then remove from oven and sprinkle Swiss cheese on top.
  6. Return to oven and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes until cheese is melted and meatloaf is cooked through.
  7. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing.
  8. Garnish with parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • Avoid overmixing to keep the meatloaf tender.
  • You can use ground turkey as a lighter alternative.
  • Add a glaze of ketchup on top before baking for extra flavor.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables.
