Ingredients
- 500 g ground beef
- 1 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons chopped parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté mushrooms and onion until softened and moisture evaporates. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute. Let cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, sautéed mushroom mixture, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Transfer mixture to a loaf pan and shape into a loaf.
- Bake for 40 minutes, then remove from oven and sprinkle Swiss cheese on top.
- Return to oven and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes until cheese is melted and meatloaf is cooked through.
- Let rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing.
- Garnish with parsley and serve warm.
Notes
- Avoid overmixing to keep the meatloaf tender.
- You can use ground turkey as a lighter alternative.
- Add a glaze of ketchup on top before baking for extra flavor.
- Serve with mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables.
