Santa’s Favorite Creamy Potato Casserole is a rich, velvety holiday side dish made with tender potatoes, creamy sauce, and a golden cheesy topping perfect for festive gatherings.
Ingredients
- 4 cups potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish and sprinkle with half of the salt, pepper, onions, and garlic.
- In a bowl, whisk together heavy cream and sour cream, then pour half of the mixture over the potatoes.
- Sprinkle half of the cheddar and mozzarella cheese over the top.
- Repeat with the remaining potatoes, seasoning, cream mixture, and cheeses.
- Top with Parmesan and drizzle melted butter over the casserole.
- Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Allow to rest 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Add chopped cooked bacon for extra flavor.
- Yukon gold potatoes provide the best creamy texture.
- You can prepare the casserole a day ahead and bake before serving.
- Adjust creaminess by adding additional heavy cream if desired.
