Description

A comforting and hearty dish featuring juicy sausages smothered in rich mushroom gravy, served with creamy mashed potatoes blended with tender cabbage.

Ingredients

  • 6 sausages (beef or chicken)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cups mushrooms, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef or chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 cups cabbage, finely shredded
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for mash)

Instructions

  1. Boil potatoes in salted water for 15–20 minutes until tender. In the last 5 minutes, add shredded cabbage to cook together.
  2. Drain and mash with milk, butter, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet and cook sausages until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, melt butter and sauté onion until soft.
  5. Add mushrooms and cook until browned and tender.
  6. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  7. Sprinkle flour over the mixture and stir well to form a roux.
  8. Gradually add broth, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens.
  9. Stir in heavy cream and season with salt and pepper.
  10. Return sausages to the pan and simmer in the gravy for 5 minutes.
  11. Serve sausages with mushroom gravy over creamy cabbage mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • Use your favorite type of sausages for variation.
  • For a lighter option, replace cream with milk in the gravy.
  • Add a dash of mustard to the gravy for extra flavor.
  • Ensure potatoes are well-drained for a fluffy mash.
