Description

These Soft Christmas Cookies are tender, buttery sugar cookies topped with festive frosting and sprinkles. Perfect for holiday cookie exchanges or decorating with the family, they stay soft and delicious for days.

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 23 tbsp milk (for frosting)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Assorted holiday sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg, vanilla, and sour cream; mix until combined.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.
  6. Roll the dough into tablespoon-sized balls and place them 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets. Slightly flatten each ball.
  7. Bake for 8–10 minutes or until edges are just lightly golden. Do not overbake.
  8. Let cookies cool completely before frosting.
  9. For the frosting, beat powdered sugar, butter, milk, and vanilla until smooth and spreadable.
  10. Frost cooled cookies and decorate with holiday sprinkles.
