Description
Crispy, buttery puff pastry bites shaped like witch hats, filled with savory cheese and herbs—perfectly spooky appetizers for Halloween parties.
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Black food coloring (optional for extra witchy effect)
- Poppy seeds or sesame seeds for decoration
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix cream cheese, cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper until combined.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface.
- Cut circles using a cookie cutter or small glass. These will be the hat brims.
- Cut triangles from the remaining pastry to form the tops of the hats.
- Place about a teaspoon of cheese filling onto each circle.
- Brush edges with egg wash and place a pastry triangle on top, gently pressing edges to seal and form a witch-hat shape.
- Brush the entire pastry with egg wash. Add black food coloring to the wash if a darker hat is desired.
- Sprinkle with poppy seeds or sesame seeds for extra texture.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes or until puffed and golden.
Notes
- Chill the shaped pastries for 10 minutes before baking to help maintain their shape.
- Add cooked bacon bits or chopped herbs to the filling for extra flavor.
- Serve warm for the best texture and taste.
