Description

Crispy, buttery puff pastry bites shaped like witch hats, filled with savory cheese and herbs—perfectly spooky appetizers for Halloween parties.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Black food coloring (optional for extra witchy effect)
  • Poppy seeds or sesame seeds for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix cream cheese, cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper until combined.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface.
  4. Cut circles using a cookie cutter or small glass. These will be the hat brims.
  5. Cut triangles from the remaining pastry to form the tops of the hats.
  6. Place about a teaspoon of cheese filling onto each circle.
  7. Brush edges with egg wash and place a pastry triangle on top, gently pressing edges to seal and form a witch-hat shape.
  8. Brush the entire pastry with egg wash. Add black food coloring to the wash if a darker hat is desired.
  9. Sprinkle with poppy seeds or sesame seeds for extra texture.
  10. Bake for 12–15 minutes or until puffed and golden.

Notes

  • Chill the shaped pastries for 10 minutes before baking to help maintain their shape.
  • Add cooked bacon bits or chopped herbs to the filling for extra flavor.
  • Serve warm for the best texture and taste.
