Description

Cheddar Bay Beef Casserole is a hearty comfort-food bake featuring seasoned ground beef in a creamy cheese sauce topped with fluffy Cheddar Bay biscuit-style topping infused with garlic, butter, and cheddar cheese.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 package (11.36 oz) Cheddar Bay biscuit mix
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (for biscuit topping)
  • 3/4 cup cold milk
  • 1 seasoning packet from biscuit mix
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Add onion and cook until softened, about 4 minutes.
  4. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  5. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.
  6. Stir in cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, cheddar cheese, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  7. Cook until creamy and well combined.
  8. Spread the beef mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  9. In a bowl, combine Cheddar Bay biscuit mix, shredded cheddar cheese, and milk. Stir until just combined.
  10. Drop spoonfuls of biscuit dough evenly over the beef mixture.
  11. Bake for 25-30 minutes until the biscuit topping is golden brown and cooked through.
  12. Mix melted butter with the seasoning packet and brush over the hot biscuit topping.
  13. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the biscuit topping to keep it light and fluffy.
  • Ground turkey can be substituted for beef.
  • Add peas or mixed vegetables for extra nutrition.
  • Sharp cheddar provides the best flavor.
  • Store leftovers refrigerated for up to 4 days.
