Description

Cherry Vanilla Sweet Cream Biscuits are tender, buttery biscuits made with sweet cream, juicy cherries, and vanilla flavor, then finished with a light vanilla glaze for a delightful breakfast or brunch treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cherries, pitted and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon flour (for coating cherries)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Toss chopped cherries with 1 tablespoon flour and gently fold into the flour mixture.
  5. In a small bowl, combine heavy cream and vanilla extract.
  6. Pour the cream mixture into the dry ingredients and stir just until a shaggy dough forms.
  7. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead 3-4 times.
  8. Pat dough into a 1-inch thick rectangle and cut into 8 biscuits.
  9. Place biscuits on the prepared baking sheet.
  10. Bake for 14-16 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Allow biscuits to cool slightly.
  12. Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the glaze.
  13. Drizzle glaze over warm biscuits and serve.

Notes

  • Keep the butter cold for the flakiest biscuits.
  • If using frozen cherries, do not thaw before mixing into the dough.
  • Do not overwork the dough to maintain a tender texture.
  • Add a little almond extract for enhanced cherry flavor.
  • Best enjoyed warm the day they are baked.
