Crispy Bang Bang Cod Nuggets are bite-sized pieces of flaky cod coated in a crunchy seasoned breading, baked or fried until golden, and tossed in a creamy sweet-and-spicy Bang Bang sauce. These irresistible seafood bites make a perfect appetizer, snack, or main dish.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lbs cod fillets, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (for baking) or vegetable oil (for frying)
- For the Bang Bang Sauce:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
- 1 tablespoon sriracha
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon lime juice
- 2 tablespoons chopped green onions for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) if baking. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In one bowl, place flour mixed with garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Place beaten eggs in a second bowl and panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
- Coat each cod piece in the flour mixture, then dip into the eggs, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs.
- Arrange cod nuggets on the prepared baking sheet and lightly drizzle with olive oil.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and cooked through. Alternatively, fry until crispy and golden.
- Meanwhile, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, honey, and lime juice to make the Bang Bang sauce.
- Transfer cooked cod nuggets to a large bowl.
- Drizzle with Bang Bang sauce and toss gently to coat, or serve the sauce on the side.
- Garnish with green onions and serve immediately.
Notes
- Fresh cod provides the best texture, but thawed frozen cod works well.
- Adjust the sriracha level to control the heat.
- For extra crispiness, use an air fryer at 400°F (200°C) for 10-12 minutes.
- Serve with coleslaw, fries, or rice.
