Description

Crispy Bang Bang Cod Nuggets are bite-sized pieces of flaky cod coated in a crunchy seasoned breading, baked or fried until golden, and tossed in a creamy sweet-and-spicy Bang Bang sauce. These irresistible seafood bites make a perfect appetizer, snack, or main dish.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs cod fillets, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for baking) or vegetable oil (for frying)
  • For the Bang Bang Sauce:
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions for garnish


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) if baking. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In one bowl, place flour mixed with garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Place beaten eggs in a second bowl and panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
  4. Coat each cod piece in the flour mixture, then dip into the eggs, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs.
  5. Arrange cod nuggets on the prepared baking sheet and lightly drizzle with olive oil.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and cooked through. Alternatively, fry until crispy and golden.
  7. Meanwhile, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, honey, and lime juice to make the Bang Bang sauce.
  8. Transfer cooked cod nuggets to a large bowl.
  9. Drizzle with Bang Bang sauce and toss gently to coat, or serve the sauce on the side.
  10. Garnish with green onions and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Fresh cod provides the best texture, but thawed frozen cod works well.
  • Adjust the sriracha level to control the heat.
  • For extra crispiness, use an air fryer at 400°F (200°C) for 10-12 minutes.
  • Serve with coleslaw, fries, or rice.
