Ingredients

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp water
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • 2 cups shredded green cabbage
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots
  • 2 tbsp chopped cilantro
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp lime juice (for sauce)
  • 1 tsp lime zest
  • 1 tsp hot sauce (optional)
  • Lime wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a shallow bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and water.
  3. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels.
  4. Dip shrimp into the egg mixture, then coat thoroughly in the flour mixture.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry shrimp in batches for 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Transfer shrimp to a paper towel-lined plate.
  8. In a bowl, toss cabbage, carrots, cilantro, and lime juice to make the slaw.
  9. In a separate bowl, whisk together sour cream, mayonnaise, lime juice, lime zest, and hot sauce to create the lime sauce.
  10. Warm tortillas in a skillet or microwave.
  11. Fill each tortilla with slaw and crispy shrimp.
  12. Drizzle with lime sauce.
  13. Serve immediately with lime wedges.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, air-fry the shrimp instead of frying.
  • Fresh lime juice provides the best flavor.
  • Add sliced avocado for extra creaminess.
  • Serve immediately to maintain the shrimp’s crisp texture.
  • Adjust the hot sauce to your preferred spice level.
