Description

Honey Dijon Pretzel Chicken Casserole is a comforting baked dinner featuring tender chicken, a creamy honey Dijon sauce, crunchy pretzel topping, and plenty of melted cheddar cheese. This sweet-and-savory casserole is perfect for busy weeknights and family meals.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups cooked chicken breast, shredded or diced
  • 2 cups cooked egg noodles or cooked rice
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of chicken soup
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 1/2 cups crushed pretzels
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the sour cream, cream of chicken soup, Dijon mustard, honey, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and black pepper.
  3. Fold in the cooked chicken, cooked noodles (or rice), and 1 1/2 cups of the shredded cheddar cheese.
  4. Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  5. In a small bowl, combine the crushed pretzels with the melted butter.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese over the casserole.
  7. Evenly distribute the buttered pretzel topping over the cheese.
  8. Bake uncovered for 30-35 minutes until hot and bubbly and the topping is golden brown.
  9. Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  10. Garnish with chopped parsley.

Notes

  • Rotisserie chicken is a convenient shortcut.
  • Add broccoli, peas, or carrots for extra vegetables.
  • Sharp cheddar provides the best flavor, but Colby Jack also works well.
  • For extra crunch, add the pretzel topping during the final 20 minutes of baking.
  • Store leftovers refrigerated for up to 4 days.
