Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup long-grain white rice, uncooked
- 2 1/2 cups beef broth
- 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed French onion soup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella or Gruyère cheese
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat.
- Add sliced onions and cook for 10-12 minutes until deeply caramelized.
- Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Stir in rice, thyme, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Pour in beef broth, condensed French onion soup, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
- Cover tightly with a lid or foil and bake for 25-30 minutes until the rice is tender.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle cheese evenly over the top.
- Return to the oven uncovered for 5-7 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.

- For extra richness, stir in 1/4 cup heavy cream before baking.
