Description

Tiramisu Breakfast Rolls are soft, fluffy sweet rolls swirled with a cinnamon-coffee filling and topped with a luscious mascarpone cream glaze, bringing the classic flavors of tiramisu to breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon instant espresso powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 8 oz mascarpone cheese, softened
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon brewed espresso or strong coffee
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and granulated sugar. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add melted butter, egg, and salt. Gradually mix in flour until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Roll dough into a 14×18-inch rectangle.
  6. Spread softened butter over the dough.
  7. Mix brown sugar, espresso powder, and cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly over the butter.
  8. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12 rolls.
  9. Arrange rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  11. Bake for 22-25 minutes until golden brown.
  12. Meanwhile, beat mascarpone, cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and espresso until smooth.
  13. Spread the glaze over warm rolls and dust lightly with cocoa powder before serving.

Notes

  • Use room-temperature mascarpone for the smoothest glaze.
  • Do not overheat the milk or the yeast may not activate properly.
  • Freshly brewed espresso provides the richest tiramisu flavor.
  • Rolls can be prepared the night before and refrigerated before the second rise.
  • Best enjoyed warm on the day they are baked.
